Director’s Message – May 2018

May is here, it is finally Spring in Southeastern Massachusetts, and asparagus has arrived.   The cooler weather has been good for spinach and lettuce and the arrival of asparagus and strawberries makes it time to celebrate.  Our first Twilight workshop of the year will be on strawberry growing at Spring Rain Farm in Taunton.  If you want to learn more about strawberry growing, you’ll be learning from experts.  We are also excited to offer a workshop on Raising Alpacas at Golden Touch Farm in Westport in June.  The rest of our Twilight Workshops are posted on the website, and below in the newsletter.  Our workshops run right through October.  We’re sure you’ll find something you like.

Keep an eye out for the 2018 Local Food Guide coming out soon. SEMAP member farms will be highlighted so you can easily identify them and we have some brand new advertisers we hope you will support.  We do have some advertising opportunities left.  It’s a great way to reach farmers and food lovers in Southeastern Massachusetts.  If you would like a case of the Guides for your business or farmers’ market, please contact us and we will drop them off.

Our 4th annual Farm to Tapas event will be held on August 12th at a new location on Barney’s Joy. Small plates based on seasonal food from local farms, prepared by local chefs, and accompanied by local drinks.  We consistently sell out so be sure to grab your tickets early. Once tickets go on sale we will let you know.  Is your membership up to date?  Members are able to purchase tickets in advance before we open up sales to the general public.  Check to be sure your membership is up-to-date here or become a member today to take advantage of this opportunity.
