February 16, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
The Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association, in collaboration with the Rhode Island Food Center at URI, is pleased to invite you to join us for a breakout session to discuss good food jobs.
Thursday, February 16, 2023
4-5:15 PM
URI Alumni Center, 73 Upper College Road, Kingston, RI
The social and economic disruptions and the “Great Resignation” that the nation has experienced over the last three years has further demonstrated that people are seeking work with businesses that have a mission, vision, and values that align with their own. They are seeking jobs where they have opportunities for professional growth, where they are cultivated as full human beings, and where the products, processes, and programs contribute to environmental sustainability, vibrant local food systems, social justice, and equity.
Bringing together employers and employees from across the Rhode Island food system and supply chains, this panel will explore a range of tangible and tactical approaches to investing in people as an investment in business and, more broadly, in the state’s agriculture and food industries. Panelists will include representatives from Blount Fine Foods, the Newport Restaurant Group, Farm Fresh RI, and Greenview Farm. Shannon Brawley of the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association and Shayna Cohen of KK&P will co-host and facilitate the conversation.
This session is designed for workers, managers, business owners, and anyone else wanting a window into the specific things that real Rhode Island companies are doing to cultivate people to elevate the food system.
This session will be offered in-person, although space is limited. There will also be an option to watch the event virtually.
