Pastured Pigs at Revival Farm – SEMAP Twilight Workshop

June 18, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$5 – $20

Join SEMAP for a Twilight Workshop & tour of Revival Farm in Plympton, MA on June 18th at 6pm!

Farmers Kathryn & Justin Shepard both have full-time jobs, but have enjoyed running their 3.5 acre farm for the past 3 years before and after work and on the weekends.  The couple raises Berkshire, Tamworth, and Yorkshire crosses, as well as chickens, and have approximately 30 pigs on the farm at any given time. They have figured out how to rotationally graze the pigs and their chickens to be able to maximize the limited space they have.

They farrow and finish their own pigs on the farm, while also selling extra piglets to other farmers, in addition to selling meat at the Kingston Farmers Market and on their website, while doing a mix of bulk packages and retail cuts. They use Meatworks in Westport as a processor.

Kathryn & Justin are happy to talk about whatever topics are most useful for the attendees; some of the areas they have experience with include converting a 40′ shipping container into pig housing, loading pigs onto a trailer easily, keeping water from freezing in the winter, fencing/rotationally grazing, artificial insemination, farrowing, buying grain in bulk and tracking what is fed out. To learn more, find photos & stories from Revival Farm on Instagram, Facebook, and the Farm’s blog.

Whether you have been raising pigs for some time, or you’re just starting out, this workshop is for you!
