EMASS CRAFT: Tractor Maintenance at White Barn Farm
October 5, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Chris and Christy at White Barn Farm have been operating tractors since their beginning 13 years ago. The decision to do so was solely based on the fact that the farm came with a working kubota tractor and a working farmall cub. They currently use 4 tractors, all on the smaller side, with a 50 horse power tractor as the largest. Tractor work ranges form field prep, compost turning, moving pallets, cultivation, even a hayride or two. They are extremely important to farm efficiency. Maintaining these tractors is what keeps them going – some of their tractors are almost 70 years old and have been operating on the farm for that long. They also have some brand new Italian made tractor implements that we include in the maintenance. This will be a good opportunity to see how a small farm maintains their tractor fleet.
Some of the items we will go over include grease guns, tractor maintenance records, the use of hydraulic fluid, how to do a an oil change, winterizing tractors and maintaining tractor implements. We will include a bit of farm tour and show you a couple of fun, no till tools if people are interested.
