SEMAP was founded in 1998 as a Buy Local organization to connect our region’s farmers to important resources, and to educate the community on the value of local food. Our service area covers 75 towns across Bristol, Plymouth, and Norfolk counties in Massachusetts—home to over 200 farms of all sizes.
Over the past two decades, SEMAP has:
- Launched an annual Local Food Guide of regional farmers and food producers.
- Produced the annual Southeast New England Agriculture Conference & Trade Show of Southeastern Massachusetts.
- Connected farmers with education, hands-on workshops, and business assistance resources.
- Supported state policies and programs that connect more people with local food.
- Advocated for better land access for farmers.
SEMAP’s programs and goals evolve alongside local and national changes in agriculture. We will continue to champion local food and build a strong farming future for Southeastern Massachusetts and beyond.
Mission
Our mission is to cultivate a healthy SE Massachusetts by strengthening connections between farms, communities and the land and creating a regional food system that is equitable, resilient and accessible. We connect, advocate and educate to build thriving agricultural communities that work for all.
Vision
We envision a healthy, inclusive and resilient local agriculture ecosystem, in which farmland is accessible and protected, deep connections and partnerships are fostered, farmers are thriving and valued members of their communities, and there is accessible food for all.
