2nd Annual Community Maple Boil
February 11, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Tap the maple trees near your home, collect the sap weekly and bring it to Osamequin Farm to contribute to the boil… at the end of the season we’ll have community maple syrup!
How to participate:
-
RSVP for our free tapping demonstration day on February 11th
-
if you need tapping supplies (taps, tubing, and buckets), you can purchase them from us that day
-
-
Tap the trees near your home (be sure to get permission if needed!). Sugar maples are the best, but red maples and silver maples will work as well. Watch the linked video below for help identifying.
-
Contribute a sliding scale contribution of $25 – $50 per family, OR, volunteer to come feed the fire and watch the boil for at least one 3-hour shift (more details on volunteering here)
-
Collect sap and bring it to the boiling days at Osamequin Farm within 1 week (sap spoils like milk, don’t let it sit too long!)
-
or, try boiling at home! Our tapping guide, linked below, has some tips for boiling.
-
Keep your tapping system clean, so that you are not contributing contaminated sap to the community boil.
-
-
At the conclusion of boiling season (late March), participants will receive a share of the community maple syrup!
