SEMAP Seed Saving Demo at Ivory Silo Farm
October 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$5 – $20
Join us for a demonstration on seed saving hosted at Ivory Silo Farm, in partnership with the Freed Seed Federation, a 501(c)3 whose mission is to foster a regionally-adapted seed stock for area growers in Southeastern Massachusetts and beyond.
At Ivory Silo, the vegetable seeds are tended by horizontal selection for regional adaptation. In other words, the best of the best seeds are selected based on a series of their most desirable characteristics. By doing so, the crops adapt to the local climate, pests, microbes, and so on – the way humans have saved seeds for thousands of years. The farm is currently building infrastructure to serve as a hub for seed processing and education and partnering with local growers on seed saving efforts.
Chat with the farmers Bill Braun & Dee Levanti all about the immense opportunities to save seeds at your farm or garden, and improve your yields, sustainability, and self-sufficiency. Tickets are $5 for Beginning Farmers or $20 for General Admission.
