With a 20+ year-career in the hospitality industry, Derek knew his time with food wasn’t over when he was laid off from his role as a Food and Beverage Director at the beginning of the pandemic. While researching what could be his next step to provide for his family and continue to do the purpose-driven work that makes him feel fulfilled, he found Freight Farms. Derek’s wheels immediately started turning with the endless possibilities that this farm and business could provide for not only his family, but his community, as well.

Together, Derek and Brad have big goals for their business, Ditto Foods — with more Freight Farms in the near future and an intention to build a hub for fresh food in a disadvantaged neighborhood of Chicago. And they’re not alone — they’re taking their four kids along for the ride, too!
