Starting this last week of summer off strong with another #MemberMonday, this time bringing you a look at one of our favorite local grocers!
Lees Market has deep roots in the Westport community, providing many delicious local foods since 1949. They offer products from more than 20 local farms, bringing the freshest and best in produce, eggs, meat and more. Through these deep community connections, they are able to carry on Westport’s rich tradition of agriculture in their store. “Through our passion for food and the community support that we have received for decades,” says Matt Ponte, communications manager, “Lees Market has evolved into a world-class food and spirits market devoted to the total shopping experience.”

On top of these great local foods, they proudly stock a vast array of products from local artisans and makers of all kinds. Their business has grown over the years to include their scratch kitchen, bakery and cafe, as well as their famous Meat Department, which prepares hand-cut steaks and ground beef the old-fashioned way every day. Ponte sees all of this as a major strength, saying, “it’s this hands-on approach that has been part of our ethos since day one and continues to help us grow into the future.”
Building on years of success and always looking to grow, Lees is excited to share their newest venture, VERTIGREENS. This on-site hydroponic farm allows them to bring delicious local food to their many customers during the traditional off-season. As Ponte explains excitedly, “our farm will be providing our customers with the freshest greens and more, all year long.”
Thanks to their great relationships with local farms, Lees is able to offer seasonal treats at every time of year. “There’s so many amazing seasonal crops,” Ponte says, “but local corn is always a favorite during the late summer. The local farms grow it so wonderfully that all it needs is a quick boil and you can enjoy it as-is!” With summer winding down, you can also expect some great autumn favorites on their shelves soon. “Once we head into the fall, it’s all about the Macomber turnip!”
