Assistant Grower and Field Crew positions

Brookwood Community Farm is a non-profit farming operation in Canton/Milton, MA. Brookwood Community Farm (BCF) was founded in 2006 with the goals of restoring underutilized farmland near Boston, strengthening the local food system, and increasing access to healthy food in low-income neighborhoods of Boston. The farm cultivates five acres using organic practices, operates a robust Community Supported Agriculture program, farmstand, and farmers market stall.

An Assistant Grower will assist in all aspects of vegetable production including greenhouse management, planting, cultivation, irrigation management, harvest, wash and packing, CSA and market management, and tractor work. Additional responsibilities, such as small project management, will be delegated depending on needs, interests, and abilities.

The ideal candidate has 1-3 seasons of farming experience, interest in developing their farming and leadership skills, and commitment to BCF’s mission and purpose. Must have attention to detail and an ability to keep a positive attitude during fast-paced workdays with various demands on time and energy. Must also have a sense of personal accountability, thoughtfulness, and respect for farm staff, volunteers, and our many patrons and friends at the farm. A clean driving record, driver’s license, and ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs are required. Reliable transportation is also needed, as public transit to the farm is limited.

Duration: Mid-April through November, Tuesday through Saturday, with rotating weekend greenhouse duty. Hours are 7 am – 4 pm (with an unpaid lunch break) at the peak of the season, with fewer hours in spring and fall.

Compensation: Starts at $13/hr, depending on experience, 5 paid vacation days, paid sick leave as accrued, farm produce and flowers, optional participation in bi-weekly CRAFT sessions, and a $250 educational stipend.


Field Crew will help with multiple aspects of vegetable production, including planting, weeding, harvest, and greenhouse work.

No farm experience is needed, but candidates need experience working long hours in all types of weather, must enjoy working alone and in a group, have an interest in farming, and commitment to BCF’s mission and purpose. Must have attention to detail and an ability to keep a positive attitude during fast-paced workdays with various demands on time and energy. Must also have a sense of personal accountability, thoughtfulness, and respect for farm staff, volunteers, and our many patrons and friends at the farm. A clean driving record, driver’s license, and ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs are required. Reliable transportation is also needed, as public transit to the farm is limited.

Duration: Candidates must be able to work 1-4 days/week, preferably Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, starting May/June through August/September (depending on availability), and occasional weekend greenhouse duty. Core hours are 7 am – 4 pm, with an unpaid lunch break.

Compensation: Starts at $12.75/hr depending on experience, sick leave as mandated by MA law, and farm produce and flowers.
