Heart Beets Farm is hiring for 2020 and beyond. Heart Beets Farm is a 36 acre (10 acres active production), Certified Organic farm in Berkley, MA. Since 2013, we’ve provided year-round, high-quality vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit to Bristol county. Our markets include a 200-member CSA, a Farmstand, restaurants, wholesale, and 1 weekly farmers market. We’re seeking experienced candidates to round out our Team:

● Summer Field Crew Part-Time
● Field Crew & Tractor Operator Part-Time

Field Crew Part-Time

Responsibilities:
Field Crew members participate in a wide range of fieldwork in annual vegetable production including transplanting, harvesting, hoeing, hand weeding, mulching and more. A large portion of this job is transplanting on the back of our waterwheel transplanter.

Qualifications:
● 1+ year experience in vegetable production
● Ability to work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment
● Ability to maintain good spirits and morale in all weather
● Drivers license and reliable transportation
● Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly

Schedule:
This is a Part-Time, Partial-Season position with the potential for full-time work in year 2. Our daily schedule is seasonally variable with a start time beginning at 8:00 am and moving to 7:00 am by the height of the season. Field Crew join us in May & June and work part-time (12-25 hours/week) through Thanksgiving. Field Crew Members work 3-5 days per week. No weekend work is required. Off-season work (January-April) is available for the right candidate. Off-season work includes harvesting greens, packing wholesale orders, and staffing winter markets.

Compensation:
We offer $13 – $15/hour starting wage based on experience. Additionally, all employees enjoy farm produce through our CSA program.


Summer Field Crew Part-Time

Field Crew / Tractor Operator Part-Time

Responsibilities:
The Tractor Operator / Field Crew participates in a wide range of fieldwork in annual vegetable production including transplanting, harvesting, hoeing, hand weeding, mulching and more. They are also responsible for most of the tractor cultivation on the farm using our IH 140 cultivating tractor and range of belly and rear-mounted tools.
The Tractor Operator must be able to meet the farm standards for each kind of work in variable field and soil conditions. Attention to detail and willingness to try new ideas is key. The Operator is responsible for daily/weekly equipment checks, communicating with the farmer and other farm crew, and helping out with Field Crew work when not cultivating.

Qualifications:
● 1+ years experience operating tractors, ideally in vegetable production
● Strong safety record
● Knowledge of basic tractor and equipment maintenance
● Ability to work with a sense of urgency and maintain a swift pace, looking for efficiencies in independent tasks
● Aptitude for self-driven, independent work
● Drivers license and reliable transportation
● Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
● Willingness to “wear multiple hats” and contribute to other aspects of the farm

Schedule:
This is a part-time, seasonal position averaging 12-25 hours/week with the potential for year-round work for the right candidate. The Field Crew/Tractor Operator joins us in May and works through Thanksgiving. Off-season work (January-April) is available for the right candidate. Off-season work includes harvesting greens, packing wholesale orders, and staffing winter markets.

Compensation:
We offer a competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience. Additionally, all employees enjoy farm produce through our CSA program.
